Tragedy Strikes as Mother Takes Lives of Children and Herself with Rat Poison
In a shocking turn of events, 31-year-old Amina Mavuka, who exhibited no prior signs of depression, ended her and her children’s lives using rat poison. The devastating incident unfolded on Tuesday night, revealing a hidden turmoil in their seemingly content lives.
The lifeless bodies of Amina and her two children, a 10-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter, were discovered in their rented room in Ivory Park’s Tokyo section near Tembisa. Investigation suggests that Amina had intentionally mixed rat poison into yoghurt, feeding it to her children before consuming the lethal substance herself.
Left behind were two suicide notes that unraveled the underlying pain. Addressing her ex-husband, the father of the children, Amina wrote, “My death and the death of my two children are in your hands. You are responsible.” To her family, she expressed, “I am sorry. I had to do this. But I am tired of life.” The notes hinted at her weariness from ongoing conflicts with her ex-husband.
In a final message on WhatsApp, she conveyed, “I love you all.” Amina’s brother-in-law, Robert Majekwana, received a distressing call from one of Amina’s brothers, alerting them that she and her children had not been seen for some time. Upon reaching their residence in Ivory Park, the grim discovery was made.
An open bottle of juice, containers of yoghurt, and rat poison were found at the scene. Authorities and paramedics were summoned, certifying all three individuals as deceased. The motive behind this tragic incident remains elusive, leaving neighbors in shock and mourning the loss of a seemingly happy and friendly community member. Amina’s unanticipated actions have left a void, and her children are remembered as sweet and joyous playmates, making the tragedy even more heart-wrenching for those who knew them.
