ZIFA Normalisation Committee to extend Warriors Coach Brito

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee is poised to extend a new contract offer to Warriors coach Baltemar Brito as details emerge that his existing arrangement with the country’s football leadership concludes on December 31, 2023.

Brito assumed the role of Warriors coach in September, with his compatriot Antonio Torres appointed as the fitness and conditioning coach. Their initial contracts, in tandem with their tenure at Highlanders, are set to expire on December 31. This synchronicity was reportedly due to work permit considerations during their transition from Bosso.

A reliable insider with knowledge of ZIFA’s internal affairs disclosed that the Normalisation Committee has already initiated discussions with Brito and Torres for contract extensions. The source clarified that the contracts couldn’t extend beyond December 31, aligning with the expiration of their work permits and concurrent with their Highlanders commitments.

“The NC has already engaged them (Brito and Torres) for contract extensions. They could not be offered contracts that run beyond 31 December because their work permits are also expiring on December 31, concurrently with their Highlanders contacts,” the source stated. Despite this, the source reassured that the duo would undoubtedly be retained.

Highlanders has already declared that Brito’s contract with the club will not be renewed, signaling that if successfully retained, the former Chelsea assistant coach will now exclusively concentrate on leading the Warriors.

Brito steered the Warriors through their inaugural World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria, securing two draws in the process. The prospect of contract extensions indicates a vote of confidence in the coaching duo, affirming their pivotal roles in shaping the national team’s future endeavors. As the negotiations unfold, the football community eagerly anticipates the continued collaboration between Brito, Torres, and the ZIFA Normalisation Committee.
