A suspected cocaine dealer who was selling drugs around Harare appeared in court over the weekend.
He is facing charges of having drugs illegally.
Talent Rusere appeared before Magistrate Apolonia Marutya, who ordered him to stay in prison until today for a bail hearing.
According to the State, on 24 January 2025, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics received information that the accused person had Cocaine and was supplying it in greater Harare.
This incident is part of a larger issue of drug trafficking and abuse in the region, which law enforcement agencies are actively working to combat.
The court heard that detectives pretended to be possible buyers when contacting the accused.
The accused told the detectives to go to the Ushewekunze Chigwende area. When they arrived, they found the suspect driving a silver Toyota Axio without registration on Rosemary Road.
Detectives stopped the accused’s vehicle, introduced themselves by showing their police ID cards, and explained why they were there.

The suspect was in the act of discarding a clear plastic bag with his left hand when the officers swiftly intervened, preventing the destruction of potential evidence. The bag contained white substances suspected to be Cocaine.
“A body search was conducted on the accused, leading to the seizure of one transparent plastic of suspected Cocaine from the accused’s left jean pocket. The State claims that further searching the accused’s car found one black digital scale and several plastic bags.
Rusere was quickly caught and taken to the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit for further handling.
A field test was supposedly done on the recovered drugs using Mobilab kits in front of the accused, and it came back positive for Cocaine.
This field test is a crucial part of the evidence against the accused, as it provides a preliminary confirmation of the nature of the seized substances.
The court heard that the drugs taken by authorities were weighed in front of the accused, and they totalled 23 grammes, worth Zim 41,400 on the street.
