Sydney- An Exiled Zimbabwean journalist Charles Dzimwasha based in Sydney, Australia has stood in solidarity with hounded musician, Winky D.
Speaking on Eden Community radio station on a programme hosted by Frankie Von Trapp, the young journalist said he stands with popular Zimdancehall musician Winky D who recently was forced to halt his performance in Chitungwiza.
“What happened to Winky D is unfortunate and as a journalist the same right to free expression which he should be enjoying is being denied the same way to me,” said Dzimwasha in the broadcast aired on Monday evening.
He bemoaned how artists and journalists in Zimbabwe continue to be persecuted for doing their work.
” It is quite unfortunate that artists and scribes in my home country get harassed for simply doing their work.
” Look at the way Hopewell is being targeted for speaking truth to power and this instills fear to us young journalists, ” he added.
The arts and journalism sectors in Zimbabwe have over the years been muzzled.
