Bezbets’ Assets Seized Due to $5.4k Payout Dispute

Gaming Company 'Bezbets' Convicted for Refusing to Pay Punter's Winnings Image via Internet
gaming company Bezbets faced conviction in court after refusing to honor a punter's substantial win of US$5,400.

A local online betting company, Bezbets, has had its assets seized after failing to pay a punter $5,400.

After the corporation was found guilty of scamming a punter, Mrs. Sharon Mashavira, a magistrate at the Harare Civil Court, ordered it to pay the sum. Bezbets was fined $500 by magistrate Mr. Simon Kandiero in March for the infraction. After that, the bettor filed a lawsuit to get his $5,400 in winnings back.

“Having reviewed the filed documents, default judgment is granted as follows: an order for payment of the sum of $5,400, being damages for breach of contract, payable in local currency at the prevailing rate on the date of payment,” said magistrate Mr. Mashavira.

Bezbets’ property has since been taken by the Messenger of Court in order to settle the winnings. Among the things that were taken into custody were television sets, refrigerators, printers, and chairs for boardrooms.

In addition, the business was mandated to pay interest on the sum, calculated from October 2023 until the day of complete payment, at a rate of five percent annually.

It was determined that the gambler used the Bezbets online platform to place a $394 wager on roulette on October 26. If the wager paid out, there was a $5,400 possible reward.

The firm offered $1,800 in lieu of payment after the punter won, but refused to pay.
