Journalist Blessed Mhlanga has been granted bail of US$500 following more than two months in pre-trial detention, sparking renewed concern over press freedom in Zimbabwe.
Mhlanga, a senior reporter with Alpha Media Holdings and a well-known investigative journalist, was released on Monday after his legal team successfully appealed for bail in a Harare court.

The court ruled that the state had not provided sufficient justification for continued detention while investigations were ongoing.
He was arrested earlier this year under charges that have yet to be clearly substantiated by the prosecution, with observers citing growing concern over the use of legal processes to intimidate members of the press.
