Celebrating Excellence,Tyla and Chidimma Adetshina Honored Among 100 Most Influential African Women

PR and rating firm Avance Media has unveiled its 2024 list of the 100 Most Influential African Women, and several South African names stand out, reflecting the diverse and powerful contributions women across the continent are making in various sectors. This year’s list marks the sixth edition of the prestigious recognition, highlighting the achievements of African women shaping the global narrative.

Among those included in the list is Tyla Laura Seethal, known professionally as Tyla. The South African singer has made significant waves in the music industry, earning recognition both locally and internationally. Tyla’s inclusion on the list follows a stellar year that saw her release her debut album, Tyla in 2024, solidifying her status as a global music sensation. The Grammy Award-winning artist is known for her unique blend of genres and her rise to prominence in the international music scene.

Tyla’s remarkable achievements include winning multiple accolades such as the Best International Act award from South Africa’s Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and the Best New Artist and Best International Act awards at the BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Furthermore, she took home the Global Force Award at the Billboard No. 1s event and clinched the Best Afrobeats honour at the MTV Video Music Awards. Her success continued into 2024 as she sold out concerts in Cape Town and Pretoria, further establishing her presence in South Africa. Tyla even added a Gauteng performance in January due to high demand from her local fan base.

Another notable inclusion from South Africa is Chidimma Adetshina, a trailblazer in the pageant world and the current Miss Universe Africa and Oceania 2024. Adetshina’s journey to global recognition wasn’t without its challenges.

She first made headlines in 2024 when her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant sparked controversy, with questions raised about her citizenship and her eligibility due to her Nigerian and Mozambican heritage. The Department of Home Affairs in South Africa conducted an investigation, revealing evidence of identity theft and fraud related to her mother’s actions during Adetshina’s birth.

Despite the controversy, Adetshina showed resilience. She withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition on August 8, just days before the finale, and redirected her focus to the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she emerged victorious as first runner-up.

Her stellar performance in the competition propelled her to international acclaim, eventually earning her the coveted title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania 2024. Adetshina went on to represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico City, marking another milestone in her career.

Both Tyla and Adetshina are not only symbols of personal success but also of the broader empowerment of African women in fields ranging from music to beauty. Their inclusion in the 100 Most Influential African Women list underscores the continent’s ongoing transformation and the pivotal role women play in shaping its future.

As African women continue to break barriers and challenge norms, the accomplishments of figures like Tyla and Adetshina stand as testaments to the continent’s ever-growing influence on the world stage. Their stories are reminders of the importance of resilience, self-determination, and the celebration of diverse identities within the global context.
