A tragic incident in Phoenix, north of Durban, claimed the lives of two siblings on Sunday, March 9, 2025, after a cellphone reportedly exploded inside their home.
The explosion occurred in the Charclay area of Clayfield, igniting a fire that trapped the brother and sister, both in their 30s, inside their bedrooms.
Emergency responders arrived around 6 AM but faced difficulty accessing the victims due to heavy smoke and fast-spreading flames.

Firefighters eventually managed to search the premises and recovered the first victim, a woman, who was pulled from the burning house. Despite efforts to resuscitate her through CPR, she was later declared dead due to severe burns.
The second victim, a man, was also found and received emergency medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the explosion and resulting fire, raising concerns about the potential dangers associated with electronic devices.
