The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has launched an investigation into Chipinge headmaster Nisbert Zaba Makhuyana following the circulation of a controversial video.
The footage, reportedly showing Makhuyana in a compromising situation with a student from Samhutsa Secondary School, has spread widely on social media.
Acting Manicaland Provincial Education Director Richard Gabaza confirmed the ongoing probe, noting that progress has been delayed due to Makhuyana’s current unavailability. According to Gabaza, the headmaster is on holiday and engaged in ZIMSEC examination marking.

The origin of the leaked video remains unclear, but it reportedly surfaced last week, leading to Makhuyana’s arrest. However, the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court declined to proceed with prosecution. This decision was influenced by an affidavit from the student now believed to be over 18 stating that the relationship was consensual and denying allegations of rape.
The one-minute video clip allegedly depicts Makhuyana in bed with the former student. Local sources claim that the headmaster was previously romantically involved with the learner’s mother before starting a relationship with the learner herself.
