Divine Muheto a beauty queen in Rwanda has been apprehended for driving under the influence and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
Authorities reported that Muheto, who recently claimed the title of Miss Rwanda, caused damage to public infrastructure before fleeing the scene of the incident. However, there is no information regarding any injuries resulting from the collision.
This is not the first instance in which the 21-year-old has been found driving while intoxicated, according to the police in the East African nation.
As of now, Ms. Muheto has not publicly commented on her arrest, which was confirmed by the police on Tuesday following several days of speculation about her detention.

A court in Kigali is scheduled to commence hearings on her case on Thursday, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the prosecution in local media.
Ms. Muheto rose to prominence in Rwanda after winning the national beauty pageant in 2022. The event has been put on hold since then, following allegations of sexual misconduct against its organizers.
In Rwanda, driving under the influence can result in a fine of approximately US$110 and up to five days in police custody.
In recent years, thousands of individuals have been arrested for this offense as law enforcement has increased its efforts to uphold traffic regulations. In 2022, a Member of Parliament resigned and issued an apology due to a drink-driving incident.
The Rwandan government reports that the strict enforcement of traffic laws has led to a notable decrease in fatal road accidents across the country.
