AS the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) aggressively markets brand Zimbabwe to the world, smaller players within Zimbabwe are playing their part in popularising domestic tourism.
Tourism players in different parts of the country are coming up with unique initiatives to lure locals to some of the country’s best tourist destinations.
One such place is Montclair Hotel, which on Saturday hosted an event dubbed, “Fathers Exit Weekend”. The event to celebrate Father’s Day featured superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Rockford “Roki” Josphat and DJ Eskay.
Montclair sales executive Tendai Chiripamberi said as tourism players they had to come up with strategies to boost domestic tourism in the country.
“Our people love to travel, but they want more than just site seeing. So we have to add some spice and it is really working. For instance, on June 25 we celebrated Father’s Day in style at Montclair,” said Chiripamberi.
She added: “Father’s Exit weekend was centred on celebrating the fathers and showing appreciation for the important roles they play in society. This getaway was an exhilarating fun-filled weekend with activities for the whole family including braai, golf, sports, tours to places of interest and so much more.
“Exciting developments to note are that of the reopening of the resident Casino at the hotel and the resident shuttle Tours agent – Bonga Travel.”
Zimbabwe’s tourism sector has the potential to contribute significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The country is a recipient of many awards including the prestigious world best tourism destination and favourite cultural destination, received from the European Council on Tourism and Trade.
Montclair’s decision to partner internationally travelled superstar, Mtukudzi, to market the Eastern Highlands is a masterstroke.
Tuku is also the Tourism Ambassador for the country.
If Tuku, Roki and DJ Eskay’s performances failed to mesmerise some, then the serene misty mountains of Juliasdale, the charming forests and mountains of Nyanga, and the ambience of Montclair itself definitely did the trick.
