Freeman ,Kikky Badass to headline Shoko Festival

Zimdancehall chanter Freeman and ‘Queen of Hip Hop’ Kikky Badass are among the headline acts for this year’s Shoko Festival .
In a press release ,the organisers of this urban premier festival revealed that the Bindura-born Zimdancehall artiste and the female rapper who is riding high after featuring on Fire Emoji remix will be among an array of musicians expected to mesmerise fans from 27th September to 1st October.
“This year’s edition of Shoko Festival has a special focus on local talent which kept hope alive during the Covid-19 pandemic –with a jaw dropping headline roster of Zimbabwe’s heavyweight household names.The Shoko 2022 headline acts are the Zimdancehall ‘HKD Boss’ Freeman who is promising to bring his full catalogue of hits,the King of Drill,Voltz JT ,and the Queen of Hip Hop,Kikky Badass with the “Ginde” hitmaker Crooger.
“Also on the line up are new hip hop stars Trap Sungura Tanto Wavie,Brian Jeck from Chegutu,and Bulawayo-based rapper Luminous ,”revealed the organisers.
There will be international acts that include TMRS AwaGe and Rhodalia Silvestre from Mozambique and multi-creative Dj Lady Light from Zambia.
Festival director,Samm Monro a.k.a Cde Fatso said this year’s edition is to appreciate how local artistes have managed to hold it down during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“This year at Shoko we want to celebrate our amazing local acts.We want to show that local is legit.
“During the two years of lockdowns and a pandemic,our Zimbabwean artists are the ones who kept us entertained and motivated while we were stuck at home.

At the same time the local arts sector suffered massively due to a lack of live shows with venues closed.So this year all our headline acts are proudly Zimbabwean as we salute the power of our artists ,” he said.
The festival is running under the theme ‘PARTYcipate’ which is a clarion call to encourage young people to be part of public processes that define their future.
Other events lined up include the Voice 2 Rep Watch, the Women’s Cypher ,Mash Up Night ,The Roast of Temba Mliswa and the main event ,Peace in the Hood in Chitungwiza .
