George Katsimberis’ Fraud Trial Adjourned Amid Legal Dispute

Tapiwa Tsingidzi

The fraud trial of George Katsimberis has been postponed until February 29 following his urgent court application to halt proceedings pending a review application.

This review challenges the magistrate’s decision to dismiss his original request to have prosecutor Mr. Michael Reza testify as his witness.

The urgent chamber application for the review in the High Court is scheduled for hearing on February 23 before Justice Munamato Mutevedzi.

During previous trial sessions, Mr. Reza accused Katsimberis of seeking a Greek interpreter solely to annoy the court.

Katsimberis is facing charges related to constructing a showroom in Borrowdale without an approved building plan, leading to the demolition of the showroom.

Mr. Reza further accused Katsimberis of forging a court record, which he presented in court as a transcript. He alleged that Katsimberis submitted a manufactured document to scandalize the court.

In response, Katsimberis argued that he would not receive a fair trial with Mr. Reza prosecuting, as he believed his constitutional rights had been infringed upon. He insisted that Mr. Reza had a history of violating his rights.

The trial’s postponement comes amid heightened legal disputes and tensions between Katsimberis and the prosecution.
