Ivy Kombo and her husband, Admire Kasi, along with their alleged accomplice, Huggins Duri, faced a setback in their fraud trial as their objection to the tendering of an email as evidence was overruled by the presiding magistrate.
The trio is accused of orchestrating a scheme to obtain conversion certificates from the Council for Legal Education (CLE) without fulfilling the necessary examination requirements.
The State contends that the email in question contains crucial information, purportedly including a list of names, including those of the accused, requesting the issuance of the certificates.

A dispute arose between the State and the defense regarding the admissibility of the email as evidence. Defense lawyers argued that they were not provided with the email at the trial outset.
While Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka did not elaborate on the full reasons for admitting the email, she noted that the defense failed to specify the prejudice they would face if the email were tendered. Nevertheless, she emphasized that the State bears the responsibility of proving the email’s authenticity.
The trial is scheduled to reconvene on March 4th, marking the continuation of legal proceedings in this complex case.
