Heightened Security Measures Implemented for Zimsec Exams to Prevent Leakages
Zimbabwe – In a bid to prevent exam paper leakages, the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has introduced stringent security measures, including the delivery of question papers to exam centers under security escort on the day of the tests.
The new regulations come in the wake of recent cases of exam paper fraud, with individuals involved now facing up to nine years in prison if convicted.

The public exams for Ordinary and Advanced Level learners commenced on October 16, and Zimsec is determined to ensure the integrity and credibility of the examination process. Anyone found guilty of leaking exam papers will be subject to severe penalties, while learners involved in such offenses will have their results nullified.
Recently, eight individuals were arrested for fraudulently selling fake exam papers on social media platforms, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures.
Zimsec’s public relations manager, Ms. Nicky Dhlamini-Moyo, explained that the council has implemented several measures to bolster security during the examination period. These measures include the daily distribution of examination question papers, the provision of Zimsec answer sheets, and the supply of necessary chemicals to exam centers.
Ms. Dhlamini-Moyo further stated that there has been a slight decrease in the number of candidates registered for this year’s exams compared to the previous year.
Approximately 322,000 learners are expected to sit for both Ordinary and Advanced Level exams.
The National Association of School Heads president, Mr. Arthur Maphosa, commended Zimsec for taking proactive measures to curb exam paper leakages.
The introduction of heightened security measures reflects the council’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination system and ensuring fairness for all candidates.
As the exams progress, Zimsec remains vigilant and committed to upholding the highest standards of security. The council urges all candidates to abide by the exam regulations and encourages stakeholders, including school heads and teachers, to play their part in maintaining a secure and conducive environment for examinations.
The implementation of these security measures marks an important step forward in safeguarding the credibility of the Zimbabwean education system. By deterring and penalizing individuals involved in exam paper leakages, Zimsec aims to protect the interests of hardworking students and maintain the integrity of academic qualifications.
