Ivory Coast Faces Crisis as Hervé Renard Talks Collapse

Ivory Coast Football Association’s attempt to bring Hervé Renard from the France women’s team “on loan” for the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations has fallen through.

The FA had approached their French counterparts to have Renard take over the Elephants following the dismissal of head coach Jean-Louis Gasset after a 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea. Despite Ivory Coast securing a spot in the knockout stage as one of the best-placed second runners, the hosts were seeking a fresh start under new technical management.

However, talks to bring in Renard have failed. The 55-year-old coach confirmed the news to French broadcaster Canal Plus, stating, “The negotiations did not finish favorably, it’s because it shouldn’t have been. I’d have loved it, but fate chose otherwise.” Interim coach Emerse Faé is likely to remain in charge for the upcoming match against defending champion Senegal in Yamoussoukro on Monday. ESPN.
