A Japanese woman who unexpectedly kissed BTS member Jin at a fan event last year is now under investigation by South Korean Police.
Police in South Korea have requested that the woman, who is currently in Japan, present herself for questioning over allegations of s@xual harassment in a public setting.
The incident took place in June 2024 at Jin’s first public fan event in Seoul following his military discharge.
The event involved the K-pop idol hugging 1,000 fans.
However, instead of simply embracing him, one attendee appeared to kiss his face, prompting Jin to turn away in response.
The unexpected gesture sparked outrage among BTS fans, with one individual filing a criminal complaint against the woman. This led to a police investigation into the matter.
On June 13, a day after completing his military service, Jin, whose full name is Kim Seok-jin, hosted the highly anticipated fan event.

The three-hour-long “hugathon” allowed lucky fans to take turns stepping onto the stage to share a brief hug with the 33-year-old star.
However, the situation escalated when one fan seemingly kissed Jin during the interaction.
The moment was captured on video and quickly went viral online. Footage showed Jin appearing surprised by the action, shifting his face away before moving on to the next fan. Other attendees were visibly upset by the incident.
The woman later detailed her experience in a blog post, claiming she had kissed Jin’s neck and describing his skin as “very soft.”
Although her identity remains undisclosed, South Korean police have confirmed that, with assistance from Japanese authorities, they have successfully identified her.
BTS’ agency, HYBE, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
Jin was the first BTS member to complete his mandatory military service, with J-Hope following suit in October.
The remaining members V, RM, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga are still serving, with the group expected to reunite in June 2025.
K-pop idols maintain strong connections with their fanbases through social media and interactive events, fostering devoted followings.
However, concerns over toxic fan culture have also risen. Many artists have spoken out about the distress caused by “sasaeng fans,” obsessive individuals who invade idols’ privacy through stalking and harassment.
