A LinkedIn post by a job seeker expressing disappointment over a rejected application has gained significant traction on the platform, amassing over 100 comments and more than 40 reposts.
Ntokozo Mthethwa, who had applied for a Systems Analyst position at IT firm Accenture, took to LinkedIn to share his frustration and determination following the rejection.
“A Loss for Both Sides”
In his open letter, Mthethwa expressed his deep disappointment, stating that while the rejection was a setback for him, it was also a missed opportunity for Accenture.
“I am disappointed by your decision, as I was eager to join Accenture. As much as this is a loss for me, it is also a loss for the company. By not hiring me, this is what you are ultimately missing out on,” he wrote.
Mthethwa described himself as an experienced operations management professional with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. He emphasized his broad industry experience and deep understanding of business processes, which he believed made him a strong candidate for the role.
Confidence Despite Lack of Direct Experience
While acknowledging that he did not have prior experience as a Systems Analyst, Mthethwa remained confident that his skills, attitude, and adaptability would allow him to excel in the position.
“I may not have direct experience in this role, but my determination to always strive for excellence, combined with my ability to learn quickly and adapt, gives me confidence that I would have exceeded your expectations,” he stated.
Sharing the Rejection Letter
Along with his post, Mthethwa attached the rejection letter from Accenture, which thanked him for applying and stated that his application would not be moving forward.
“After careful consideration of your application against the role’s requirements, we have decided not to proceed with your application at this time,” the letter read.
Mixed Reactions on LinkedIn
His post sparked varied responses from LinkedIn users, with some questioning the effectiveness of publicly addressing the rejection, while others offered words of encouragement.
One commenter, Zwelakhe N, wrote: “This won’t help you get in.”
Another, Shibu N, advised: “I would delete this unless your goal is to discourage future employers.”
On the other hand, some users supported Mthethwa’s resilience. Lucy Chabane commented: “The right organization will recognize your value—keep going, and don’t lose sight of your goals. Good luck!”
Vuyo Ntwana added: “Hard luck, ntwana. Move on. Something better will come your way.”
Others reminded him that experience is often a key hiring factor. Nelson Sakala noted: “Have you considered that someone more qualified and experienced got the job? Some roles require experience for a reason. Rejection is part of the process—keep applying, and something will come your way.”
