Zimbabwean disc jockey Tinotenda Marimo, widely known as DJ Rimo, has made a significant mark on the global stage by winning the Best Star Club DJ award at the first-ever Shining Stars Africa Awards, held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This notable achievement not only reflects his dedication but also shines a spotlight on Zimbabwean DJs internationally.
The Shining Stars Africa Awards recognize excellence across diverse sectors, such as the arts, science, and entrepreneurship, with DJ Rimo’s win highlighting his influential role in the entertainment industry.
In a heartfelt statement, DJ Rimo shared his surprise and gratitude, noting the immense effort required to build a globally recognized brand. “It’s incredibly difficult to gain international recognition as a Zimbabwean DJ. It takes years of hard work to stand out. When I heard my name, I was in total disbelief,” he said.
Although DJ Rimo watched the ceremony online, his close friend, Mr. Brown, was on hand to accept the award on his behalf and delivered a sincere, unscripted speech that made the occasion even more meaningful.

DJ Rimo’s rise to prominence began through his partnership with the late socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure. Over time, he has established himself as one of Zimbabwe’s leading DJs, renowned for his ability to blend various music genres and create high-energy, unforgettable experiences for his audiences across Africa.
In discussing his signature style, DJ Rimo emphasized the importance of the audience experience: “For me, it’s all about creating an atmosphere that connects with the crowd. What sets me apart is my ability to effortlessly mix different genres to maintain an electric vibe.”
Although simply being nominated in such a competitive category felt like an accomplishment, DJ Rimo expressed how winning the award was an honor. “To win against such skilled DJs is incredibly humbling,” he said.
This achievement adds to a growing collection of accolades, including Best Club DJ at the 2022 Asia Star Entertainer Awards (ASEA) in South Africa, and Best DJ at the Changamire Awards in April 2024.
Looking ahead, DJ Rimo is excited about future opportunities, with nominations at the upcoming Music Video Africa Awards (MVAA) in Nigeria and Zikomo Awards in Zambia. With more electrifying performances and new music in the works, DJ Rimo is poised to further elevate his career and make a lasting impact on the global entertainment scene.
