A CHITUNGWIZA man blocked sewer drainage system because his dogs played in raw sewage which had flowed into his yard.
Now, 15 families, whose homes are along the street, are enduring the ultimate nightmare with raw sewage spilling into their yards, houses and wells.
The smell around the area is unbearable.
One of the residents is Gogo Nzira, the widow of Madzibaba Godfrey Nzira.
The street is popularly known as Nzira Street, a name derived from the late Madzibaba Nzira’s home, which is identified by a cross on its walls.
One of the residents, only identified as Shadreck, is alleged to have blocked the sewer drainage system.
The other residents claim their water sources are being contaminated by raw sewage.
Shadreck told H-Metro he blocked the sewer system in protest over some residents, who refused to contribute to buy pipes.
“To be honest with you today (yesterday) I was waiting for someone I sent to buy cement to use in blocking the passage for good,” said Shadreck.
“Whoever is going to be affected will help in forcing Chitungwiza Town Council to address the situation.

“It affected my family and my dogs that is why I blocked the drain for them to feel the heat.”
The affected families have since taken their grievances to Chitungwiza Town Council.
However, officials at the Council told them their case could only be attended to after 14 days.
“Our lives are at risk because of this animosity among ourselves,” said one of the affected residents.
“Sewer drainage was working well until one of our neighbours decided to install some pipes, without Council approval, and blocked the smooth flow of sewage.
“After confronting him over his actions, he became arrogant and we took our complaints to the Chitungwiza Town Council.
“One of their engineers came but nothing was done.
“We approached them again and they promised to respond after 14 working days and this is disgusting considering that our health is at risk.
“The smell at this house is unpleasant for one to even eat.”
