Man Kills Brother’s Wife Over An Itel Phone Battery, Injures Father, Grandfather

Stephen Okwii, a resident of Kokutu village in Bukedea Sub County, Uganda, has been apprehended by authorities following a tragic incident where he fatally attacked his brother’s wife. The altercation stemmed from an Itel phone battery malfunctioning while being charged via a solar panel. Okwii’s father, Michael Imalingat, inadvertently caused the battery to explode, triggering Okwii’s fury.

Eyewitness Ms. Winny Abwate recounted how Okwii, upon discovering the explosion, engaged in a physical altercation with his father. Amidst the scuffle, Joyce Acham, the brother’s wife, attempted to intervene, only to face a fatal blow from Okwii, who wielded a hand hoe.

“The community is in shock as this marks the first instance of such violence within our midst,” Ms. Abwate expressed.

Simon Elungat, an area LC1 representative, disclosed that Okwii also inflicted severe injuries on his father and grandmother, Rose Atino, who tried to stop him from harming Acham and his brother.

Both Imalingat and Atino are receiving medical attention at Bukedea Health Centre IV.

Bukedea District police commander, Mr. Richard Asiimwe, confirmed Okwii’s detention at Bukedea Central police station. Meanwhile, Acham’s body has been transported to Bukedea Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.

“As police, we intervened promptly, arresting Okwii and initiating procedures for postmortem examination,” Mr. Asiimwe stated.

Authorities intend to press charges of murder and attempted murder against Okwii.
