Mbare Man Jailed 24 Months For Selling Alcohol to Minors
A 23-year-old Mbare man, Phaeton Mutiyaya has been sentenced to jail for selling alcohol to minors, some as young as five years old.
Mutiyaya’s despicable actions came to light during the festive season when he sold alcohol to 10 minors and filmed them consuming it. The video, which circulated on social media, sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.

Appearing before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court, Mutiyaya was handed a 12-month sentence for selling liquor to minors and an additional 12 months for operating without a shop license, as he was illegally selling alcohol from a private residence.
“This case serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of selling alcohol to underage individuals,” remarked the presiding judge during the sentencing.
The court’s decision has been met with approval from the community, who view it as a crucial step towards curbing the illegal sale of alcohol to minors.
In response to the verdict, a concerned citizen stated, “It’s important for justice to be served in cases like these to protect our children from harm.”
