Meet Skylax: The Rising Star of Afro-Pop

Skylax, a singer, songwriter, actor, and graphic designer, is making major waves in the music industry. He was born Emmanuel Anesu Chaparadza on May 13, 2003, at the Pelandaba Clinic in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

After his father passed away in 2010, Skylax was raised in the Highfield suburbs of Harare by his mother, Envah Mavingire. Skylax’s love of music began when he was nine years old. His first song, “Chii Chandatadza,” was recorded in 2019 during the COVID-19 lockdown. He began writing lyrics in 7th grade after being inspired by musical movies like Let It Shine and High School Musical. However, he kept his talent a secret until then.

Skylax attended a number of primary schools, including Adda Sisi, Mbizi Primary, St. Mary’s Kasawe, and Darwedale Primary School, where he finished his Grade 7 coursework. His secondary education started at Chegutu’s Msengezi High School, a boarding school with a vibrant music culture that helped him develop his budding talent. Later, he transferred to Mshowe High School in Karoi to finish his A-levels after completing his O-levels at St. Peter’s Kubatana Highfield in Harare.

Following his A-level completion, Skylax collaborated with producers Prophet Tian Zulu, Producer Awesome with Fidel in Kwekwe, and Abryan Sanot Nice at Eliphaz Records to release 16 songs.

Afro-pop, Amapiano, and hip-hop are blended in his unique sound, which features themes of empowerment, love, and self-discovery. Musicians such as Jason Derulo, Kae Chaps, and Jaden Smith have served as inspiration for Skylax, who has refined his skills via constant writing, performance, and practice.

Skylax’s music showcases his versatility across various genres. His popular tracks include “Zvima2k,” “Nyura Murudo,” “There is Nothing,” and “Move Your Body.” His heartfelt voice and genuine songwriting have struck a chord with listeners, establishing him as a rising star in the industry.

Beyond music, Skylax is actively involved in community youth empowerment initiatives. He serves as a role model for many young people in Southley Park, his neighborhood, and his rural roots in Karoi Tengwe. Despite leaving school two years ago, his former headmaster, Mr. Dinha, and teacher, Mr. Mpemhena, continue to support him, anticipating his rise to greater fame.

Skylax is currently working on his next major release, “Bhule (Blacklabel),” which will feature a captivating visual directed by Nickson Films. Skylax is showing no signs of slowing down, following the success of his previous music video, “Nyura Murudo,” directed by Vince Spender of Maven Africa.

He has upcoming collaborations, including Yala Kid’s new album and TP Prince’s highly anticipated project. Skylax is quickly establishing himself as a formidable presence in the music industry, with his music and message resonating with a growing fan base.

“I want my music to change people, inspire the world, and make my fans feel something real,” says Skylax.
