Naked Girls Reading is a global phenomenon that seeks to challenge the art of artistic expression and push the boundaries of theatrical performances.
Started in 2009 by showgirls Michelle L’amour and Franky Vivid, this franchise has been reproduced in over twenty six countries.
Zimbabwean audiences are set to indulge in the jaw dropping and eye popping rendition of Naked Girls Reading.
One may wonder what exactly Naked Girls Reading is all about.
As the title eludes, it is a two women show taking to the stage, delivering monologues and expressing their love for literature.
Through reading their favourite books or passages, having an open discussion on issues that plague women; issues that are often swept under the carpet and not openly discussed.
Naked Girls Reading is set to tackle stereotypes as well as taboo norms in society such as nudity.
It is set to captivate audiences as the ladies on stage express how comfortable they are with their bodies whilst enthralling the audience with their love for literature.
Naked Girls Reading has some darkness, light-heartedness and thought provoking conversations that the audience will find familiarity with. What is exciting to note is that this is a production by women who believe strongly in gender equality, emancipation and empowerment of women and are operating in an industry that is globally male dominated.
The production stars Bulawayo based television personality Sizwakele Ndlovu and controversial Social and Creative Entrepreneur Patience Phiri who is also debuting as the writer, director and producer of this edition of Naked Girls Reading.
Phiri made headlines on social media recently as she appeared naked in one of her publications.
Could this have been a precursor for the launch of Naked Girls Reading?
And will the ladies be really naked? One can only wonder.
Zimbabwean audiences are in for a feast of the eyes and social schooling.
Naked Girls Reading has created quite the buzz in the theatrical circles with some travelling from afar to witness this revolutionary production and premieres in Harare on Wednesday at Theatre in the Park.
The production is commissioned by Rooftops Productions and the show is set to start at 6pm.
