 POTRAZ Promotes Innovation and Entrepreneurship Through Training Program

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) is actively contributing to educational transformation by fostering innovation through its Innovation Drive Program.

Currently, POTRAZ is conducting training for 40 innovators identified through the Innovation Drive, aiming to support them in starting and improving their businesses as part of the authority’s commitment to promoting sustainable innovation projects.

Speaking at the launch of the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) training in Harare, POTRAZ Director-General Dr. Gift Machengete highlighted the innovators’ dedication to driving Zimbabwe’s spirit of innovation. He emphasized POTRAZ’s strategic vision to position Zimbabwe as a hub of ICT innovation regionally and globally, exemplified by initiatives like the National Innovation Acceleration Centre.

Dr. Machengete underscored the importance of capacity building, stating that it is integral to the Innovation Acceleration Centre’s strategy. The SIYB training program, aligned with this strategy, equips innovators with essential skills for sustainable success and meaningful contribution to key national priority areas.

Highlighting the role of the training program in stimulating economic growth and creating job opportunities through innovation, Dr. Machengete affirmed the government’s steadfast support for the technology entrepreneurship ecosystem, emphasizing the commitment to fostering a conducive environment for innovation.

Mr. Fortune Sithole, representing the International Labour Organisation (ILO), emphasized the importance of promoting decent work within the startup and small business sector. He emphasized the need for innovators to consider how they can create jobs and incorporate labor issues into their business strategies. Mr. Sithole stressed the ILO’s focus on the decent work agenda and encouraged innovators to be mindful of labor issues and environmental considerations in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Overall, POTRAZ’s training program reflects a comprehensive approach to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, with a focus on equipping innovators with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the business landscape while promoting socio-economic inclusion and decent work opportunities.
