Leading passenger transport provider Rimbi Tours has been praised for its integrity and swift cooperation following the interception of an illicit drug shipment discovered aboard one of its coaches during routine inspections at the Beitbridge Border Post.
On 28 June 2025, a parcel containing 742 bottles of unregistered Broncleer cough syrup—a substance often abused as a narcotic—was recovered on a bus headed for Harare.
The contraband, valued at USD 3,700, was traced to Tarusarira Tauya (35), who was later arrested in Harare after accepting delivery and loading the items into a silver Toyota Wish.
Further police investigations revealed that Rimbi bus operators were not working in cahoots with drug couriers or peddlers, clearing the company of any complicity in the smuggling attempt.
Authorities involved in the operation noted that Rimbi Tours demonstrated full transparency and compliance, enabling officers to carry out the seizure swiftly and professionally.
“Rimbi Tours complied with the authorities and set a strong example for the transport industry. Their cooperation was instrumental in preventing harmful substances from reaching the streets,” said one official involved in the investigation.
Commitment to Safer Travel
In the wake of the incident, Rimbi Tours reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and lawful business practices. The company is now enhancing internal procedures to ensure that all parcels are properly screened and documented.
“As a responsible transport provider, we take these issues seriously,” said a Rimbi Tours spokesperson, whose name was withheld.
“This incident reminds all operators of the importance of vigilance. We are committed to working with stakeholders to uphold safety standards across our network,” he added.
