Royalty Transcended to Musical Ascendency

Willis Wataffi  was born from the royal family of King Mashayamombe the father of  Mushowane, who bore Kachambwa who then give birth to his late father which is actually a monarchy of Kukachambwa in Dotito.

He is popularly known for the song Wanga with Africa Revenge which was an Italian project for about 15 artists.

Recently he released an EP with songs called Nhema and Jeka Zuva,  prior to the release of his upcoming album called Uhuru Independence which he recorded in 2016 with a new look.

It was so emotional to realize that he did that as a way of mourning his only brother who passed on in January this year and as part of their culture protecting their ethos as Korekore rain makers and hunters.

“It is our culture that if you lose one from your bloodline you shave off your hair as a way of mourning and remembrance,”  he said answering to the question why he has a new look something that his fans noticed.

There has been some misconceptions from the local fans pertaining the name of his EP  Nhema that he likened this to that of Killer T but he refuted that saying Nhema is just a word like any other word that has no title ownership and he never changed his identity in music.

Looking closely on the message that comes out from the song Nhema, it sounds as if it promotes polygamy but it is otherwise all about a man telling his woman that he is still excited to see the woman whom he met long before regardless of how long they have been in a relationship.

So he is telling her that he needs those little facets she used to show not to be always serious with family issues and other businesses but those crazy moments are important to him as a man. He added that men should stop lying to their woman that love is enough because it is those small features that you want from your woman to show so that you will not think of having small houses.

Jeka Zuva has an emancipatory meaning to the youth of today in Africa and Zimbabwe as it speaks the mind of the young people who are beckoning the sun to rise up and show its beam giving reference to his upcoming album Uhuru Independence which calls for complete freedom.

“I am saying we have been free for a long time in our country and Africa but we are not independent. Young people are yearning for it.

“Gone are the days when people used fear to control other people saying ‘takapinda mudziva rinenjuzu’{we have been in the same pool with mermaids]  and ‘takazora mafuta eshumba’,[we were anointed with fat of the lion] we as youth of today we should not look at you as invincible” he added.

In this song he is actually challenging the elderly people to consider the youth as the future of the country as well as encouraging the youth that they should be radical since revolution starts with radical minds, hence it is their time to participate and get involved in the future of the country and Africa at large therefore it is time to shine.

His forthcoming album Uhuru independence has some tracks he shared with us like Umambo where he is talking about leadership and mentorship that for one to become a good leader, he or she has to know the needs of the people they lead and address them perfectly. Show them the way and they will follow not to use force for them to follow you.

The other track found on his upcoming album is called Vudoman which is a love song thriller  where there is a guy who cannot face up  with a woman he loves hence he goes to the traditional leader to get a portion to use over her . Ironically, the girl seem to like everyone around excerpt him

In fact his album has many components, it is fun and you can dance to it.                                           Nhema, has an emancipatory message from Jeka Zuva and Umambo for self-introspection which is the thing that Willis Wataffi has been about always.

From royalty to music ascending has been the truth about the guy Willis Wataffi because he was baptised and confirmed at Anglican Church. He has been leading cell groups since his childhood and he has gone this far by the grace of God and still ministering in the house of the Lord at Christ Embassy taking up different roles in the praise and worship team.
