Rusape robberies kingpin identified

UNSCRUPULOUS Godfrey Dara, a dealer in Rusape, who was recently detained on suspicion of robbery, has come to light as the main suspect in the theft and unauthorized entrance incidents that shook Rusape at the beginning of this year.

When police apprehended eight alleged armed robbers last month, Dara (45) managed to elude capture but was ultimately taken into custody.

Dara, Gerald Gumini (38), Darlington Maibvisira (34), Nicodimus Chitumba (38), Farai Nindi, and Malvern Muchedzi, all of Rusape, were charged with three charges of stealing and three counts of unauthorized access when they appeared before Rusape magistrate Mr. Obedience Matare.

They were remanded in jail until August 1 without legal representation.

According to the prosecutor, Mrs. Oripa Sagandira, the group is accused of stealing, among other things, chainsaws, solar batteries, solar panels, and motor spare parts.

They are accused of robbing municipal authorities in Rusape and Makoni as well as private citizens.

They said that Temaruru Village resident Peter Kadungure would buy their stolen goods.

Gumini, Chitumba, and Dara went to Maungwe Investments in Headlands on January 27 in the middle of the night, broke the storehouse windowpane, cut the burglar bars, and gained inside. They got away unobserved after stealing three chainsaws, a 20-liter jerry can, a 12-volt solar battery, and a 50-watt solar panel, according to Mrs. Sagandira.

Detectives discovered information linking the suspects to the theft, which resulted in their arrest. Police found the stolen goods when Dara told them he had sold Peter Kadungure two chainsaws and a jerry can. The total amount taken was $755 040, and $244 640 worth of stuff was found, according to her.

On March 16, according to Mrs. Sagandira, the group decided to rob Tafadzwa Chitadzo, who owns a motor parts store on Maungwe Street in Rusape.

“They forced open the locked door during the night and got inside. They stole a number of parts and accessories for motors. Police investigations located the suspects, who were then taken into custody.

“Gumini, Chitumba, and Dara traveled to Total Rusape on the evening of April 10” (Main) junction traffic lights. They cut the burglar bars of the cage, broke the lock and stole two 12 volts gel batteries and went away unnoticed.

“They gave Kadungure the property. The $258 000 worth of stolen stuff was found in Kadungure, she claimed.
In addition, Mrs. Sagandira informed the court that the group had stolen a plough from a Magamba neighborhood and had painted it a different color before selling it to Kadungure.

“On May 7, the suspects broke into Simbarashe Matunga’s home in the Magamba area and took a plough. They placed the plough inside a car that Maibvisira was operating. The plough was painted red and sold to Kadungure by the accused. They were apprehended following a tip, and the plough was found, according to Mrs. Sagandira.

Additionally, the group is accused of robbing a water tank out of Vengere and selling it to Kadungure.

The treatment of Kadungure is that of a State witness.
