A taxi driver Shepherd Mangwiza was badly injured and his car was stolen after a regular customer, 18-year-old Takudzwa Nyika, turned against him. Nyika teamed up with a gang of robbers to attack Mangwiza.
On July 23, Nyika asked Mangwiza to take him to Sugar Mountain near Family 24 on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway, saying he needed a ride to pick up his sisters from a prayer session.
They agreed on a fare of $7. But when they reached the base of the mountain, Nyika told Mangwiza to wait while he went to get his sisters.

Instead of coming back alone, Nyika returned with nine other men armed with axes, machetes, catapults, and knives. They attacked Mangwiza, hitting him multiple times with their weapons. Mangwiza was left unconscious and bleeding on the ground. The gang stole his car and his phone and drove away.
A passerby found Mangwiza a few hours later, called the police, and helped him get to the hospital. He was admitted for a month.
On September 1, Mangwiza’s relative in Goromonzi spotted his stolen car being used by Nyika. They reported this to the police. Shepherd Mangwiza
