A director at Sulida Mining Private Limited, Xu Jin Xi (47), recently appeared in court on allegations of defrauding a client out of chromium ore valued at US$15,900. He was released on bail and is scheduled to return to court on January 9, 2025. The complainant, Yan Chen, resides in Borrowdale, Harare.
Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi reported that in April of this year, Xu allegedly approached Chen, introducing himself as the director of Santle Mvurwi Mine and offering a favorable price on chromium ore.
Xu proposed selling 35 trucks, each carrying 30 tonnes of chromium ore, for a total price of US$20,900. Chen agreed to the offer, paying a deposit of US$15,900, with the remaining balance to be settled upon collection of the ore at Santle Mvurwi Mine.
However, when Chen arrived at the mine to collect the ore, it was not available. Despite waiting for six months, he was unable to obtain the promised chromium ore. Xu reportedly continued to delay, citing incomplete paperwork. After months of waiting, Chen returned to Harare and filed a police report, leading to Xu’s arrest.
