Suspect Sought in R40 Million Gold Theft Following Farm Robbery in Vosburg

The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (Hawks) in the Northern Cape is seeking public assistance in locating Mayeso Ginora Lufeyo, who is believed to have information that could help resolve a case involving stolen gold and silver bars.

The precious metals were taken during a robbery at Witsloot Farm in Vosburg in November 2022. According to the Hawks, Lufeyo is wanted for questioning in connection with the theft. During the incident, a couple was confronted by four armed suspects wearing balaclavas at their rented farmhouse. The suspects, armed with firearms including shotguns, stole gold and silver bars valued at R40 million, along with a 22 rifle.

Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi, a spokesperson for the Northern Cape Hawks, stated that the case was initially reported as an armed robbery and later handed over to the Hawks for further investigation. Authorities are concerned that the stolen bars may be sold to unsuspecting buyers.

Anyone with information on Lufeyo’s whereabouts is urged to contact Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Rooiland at 082 770 5219, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or any nearest police station. Information can also be shared via the My SAPS App.

In a separate investigation, police have released identikits of three men wanted in connection with the murder of University of Fort Hare Vice-Chancellor Sakhele Buhlungu’s bodyguard, Mboneni Vesele, who was killed in January 2023. The suspects have been identified as Bafana Chiliza (24), Nkosiyazi ‘Dipopoz’ Maphumulo (28), and Siphiwo ‘Spijojo’ Jejane (35).
