The Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF) offers a unique opportunity for students from developing countries to pursue their undergraduate studies through the Empowerment Through Education (ETE) program.

This scholarship is designed to support students who demonstrate a strong commitment to improving their communities and seek to study in their home country or a neighboring developing nation.

What Is the Empowerment Through Education Program?

The ETE program is part of the Wells Mountain Foundation’s mission to create positive change through education.

The scholarship program helps students from developing countries access higher education by providing financial support for their undergraduate studies.

It is available to students in any field of study, although the Foundation strongly encourages applications from those pursuing courses that directly benefit their communities, such as medicine and health sciences, community development, law, education, social work, business, information technology, agriculture, and engineering.

Scholarship Details and Coverage

Each year, approximately 50 to 60 scholarships are awarded to deserving students, with the scholarship amount ranging from $300 to $3,000 annually.

The average award is $1,500, which can be used to cover tuition fees, books, materials, and other educational costs such as room rent and meals.

The scholarship is renewable for the entire duration of the recipient’s undergraduate studies, provided they maintain good academic standing and fulfill the volunteer service requirement.

Eligibility Criteria

WMF’s Empowerment Through Education scholarship program is designed for students who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 35 years old or younger as of 1 August 2025.
  • Must have completed or be in the final year of secondary education, with above-average to excellent grades.
  • Must be applying to university or already enrolled in an undergraduate program for their first degree.
  • Must plan to study in their home country or a neighboring developing country.
  • Must commit to living and working in their home country after graduation.
  • Must have a record of volunteer service and be dedicated to continuing volunteer work during their studies.
  • Must have some funding available for their education but require additional assistance to cover educational expenses.

Volunteer Service Requirement

The Wells Mountain Foundation places a significant emphasis on community service. All scholarship recipients are required to volunteer for a minimum of 100 hours per year during their studies.

This commitment not only helps recipients develop leadership skills but also allows them to give back to their communities while pursuing their academic goals.
