He missed out on possibilities in life, lost his mother, baby mama, and pals.
The untold tale of Zim hip-hop artist Ti Gonzi’s struggle with drugs is presented here.
He spoke up after learning that Donna Don, a Zimdancehall singer, is homeless.
After it became clear that the Mudendere singer had not dealt with his drug habit, his predicament came to light.
To be really honest, there was a moment when Ti Gonzi “began to see the real picture.”
“I began to consider all the musicians who rose to fame thanks to my name.
“I wasn’t treating my business seriously, and some artists started to profit from that by working with me.
“I composed music for them, but I didn’t get paid for it; instead, it was they who benefited from my work.
“It truly upset me, and I felt left out at the same time that my mother passed away.
“Kevin Mutandwa, my manager, left.
“I’ll be honest, I was devastated since we were so happy and compatible, but sadly, everything is history now.”
The chanter laments the loss of his infant mother as well.
“When I first started using drugs, I got into arguments with my baby mama and every time, I was so abusive and ndaiwanza hasha.
“I made the incorrect choices.
“My emphasis was solely on drugs, so I wasn’t even in charge of taking care of my infant.
We unfortunately split up with my baby mother because of misunderstandings and arguments, stated Ti-Gonzi.
The chanter did, however, also admit that he changed his course in life.
I made the commitment to never use drugs again because I was wounded by all the things I had lost and I didn’t want to be associated with failure or losers.
Saints is a young man who used to be a fan, but now we are brothers.
Saints, a young man who was once a fan and whom I now consider a brother, played a significant part in helping me escape the predicament.
“At that time, I was actually going through a breakup. I was traumatized and lost, but today I’m happy.”
He asked other musicians to support Donna Don’s drug-free efforts.
“As artists, the most we can do is post about it, as I did, and ask fans and large numbers of people to truly pray for him.
Because quitting drugs is difficult, he genuinely needs everyone’s prayers.
