The construction of a temporary traders’ market at Mbare Musika in Harare, being undertaken by Masimba Holdings, is progressing rapidly and is now 82% complete. Traders are expected to begin operating from the new facility by February 1.
This development follows a directive from President Mnangagwa, who declared Mbare a disaster area after a devastating fire destroyed stalls and traders’ goods late last year. The President called for the swift establishment of a new trading space.

During a media tour at the site, Masimba Holdings CEO Fungai Matahwa provided an update on the progress. “We are currently 82% complete. The market will be finalized in the third week of January, and traders will start using it on February 1,” Matahwa said.
The temporary market will accommodate 5,000 traders, offering them a secure space to operate while construction begins on a modern three-story Traders Market.
This initiative marks a significant step towards the modernization of Mbare Musika, aligning with the government’s Vision 2030 goals of building better infrastructure and promoting sustainable urban development.
