A tragic incident occurred on February 9, 2025, in Zvada Village, Bikita, where a 16-year-old boy, Cosmas Ruzivo, lost his life after falling from a height of 12 meters while pursuing baboons.
According to Kudakwashe Dhewa, the Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson, the incident unfolded when Ruzivo was herding cattle with three friends in the mountainous area. After some time, they began to chase baboons, during which Ruzivo slipped and fell down a slope, resulting in a fatal injury.
One of the friends ran home to inform Ruzivo’s neighbor, 66-year-old Elizabeth Pfunde, about the accident. Pfunde quickly alerted other villagers and rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, they found Ruzivo had already succumbed to his injuries.
Upon the arrival of the police, they discovered that Ruzivo had suffered a dislocated neck, bruises on his left shoulder, and significant cuts on his head. His body was subsequently transported to Silveira Mission Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
