Two Drown In Dam Under The Influence Of Alcohol
Two individuals tragically drowned in a Zhombe dam while taking a swim following a bout of beer consumption. Kwekwe police confirmed the incident, reporting the demise of a 38-year-old and a 20-year-old, identified as Thamsanqa Sibanda and Mbon’eni Mpofu, respectively.
According Chronicle, police statement says the two victims, purportedly under the influence of alcohol, drowned in Mhazhe Dam during their swimming venture on January 29, 2024, around 3 pm. Officer Commanding Kwekwe Police, Chief Superintendent Ison Chapeta, disclosed that the sub-aqua unit successfully retrieved the bodies.

Chapeta clarified, “Two people aged 38 and 20 respectively drowned in a dam in Zhombe under Chief Ntabeni. The bodies have since been retrieved by the ZRP’s sub-aqua unit and given to the families for burial. No foul play is suspected from now.”
This tragic incident follows closely after a young couple and their seven-day-old baby were swept away by the flooded Sanyathi River in Gokwe.

Authorities have been cautioning the public against crossing swollen rivers and engaging in water-related activities amid the heavy rains that affected various parts of the country last week.
