According to US security authorities, Iran was responsible for a breach that was intended to sway the 2024 election and targeted Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
US security services revealed on Monday that Iran was responsible for a recent breach that targeted Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, charging Tehran with trying to sway the 2024 election.
The Trump campaign’s earlier this month assertion that it had been targeted, possibly by Iran, was verified by a statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
“We have observed increasingly aggressive Iranian activity during this election cycle, specifically involving influence operations targeting the American public and cyber operations targeting presidential campaigns,” the agencies stated.
“This includes the recently reported activities to compromise former president Trump’s campaign, which the (intelligence community) attributes to Iran,” they stated.

Iran’s UN envoy responded by challenging Washington to provide proof for the claim that Iran was involved in the cyberattack.
The mission released a statement saying, “Such allegations are unsubstantiated and devoid of any standing.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has stated before that it has no desire or intention to meddle in the US presidential election.
“Should the US government genuinely believe in the validity of its claims, it should furnish us with the pertinent evidence — if any — to which we will respond accordingly.”
Election day in the United States is November 5, and the campaigns of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and President Trump have both reported being the victim of cyberattacks in the past several weeks.
US-based IT firms have also reported seeing these kinds of attacks.
On Monday, the US intelligence community declared that it was “confident” that Iran had targeted specific individuals in both campaigns using social engineering and other techniques, and that these efforts were “intended to influence the US election process.”

On August 10, the Trump campaign announced that it had been compromised, accusing “foreign sources” of disseminating J.D. Vance’s dossier and internal emails.
Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung released a statement saying, “These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our democratic process.”
The campaign of the previous Republican president made an implication that Iran was behind for the action after Politico revealed that it had obtained emails including the campaign materials from an unidentified source.
