ALL-ROUNDER Sean Williams scored his THIRD century of the tournament as Zimbabwe moved on the brink of qualifying for the World Cup with a hard fought 14-run victory over Oman in the first match of the Super Six stage in Bulawayo yesterday.

The left hander, a native of Bulawayo playing in front of his home fans, scored 142 runs from 101 balls, hitting 14 fours and three sixes.

He was ably supported by Luke Jongwe, who scored an unbeaten 43, Sikandar Raza chipped in with 42 while Craig Ervine, Wessly Madhevere and Joylord Gumbie contributed 25, 23 and 21 runs.

Zimbabwe scored 332/7 in their alloted overs after being asked to bat first.

Oman pace bowler Fayyaz Butt was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 79 runs from 10 overs.

Zimbabwe and Oman squared off in the warm-up match in Harare with the hosts winning the encounter by 28 runs.

It was a surprise to see them chip off Zimbabwe’s total yesterday, on a pitch which improved as the day wore on, making scoring easier.

Their cause was led by opener Kashyap Prajapati who scored 103 runs.

Several of their batsmen positive had starts but were guilty of failing to convert. Zimbabwe towering seamer Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of the crop with three wickets for 57 runs from nine overs.

Tendai Chatara also picked three wickets.

The Chevrons now lead the Super Six standings with six points.
