Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, has expressed deep concern over a growing trend of infidelity among women, which has been cited as a leading cause of marital breakdowns in the country.
Speaking at a recent event, the First Lady urged women to uphold self-respect and embrace moral values to strengthen the institution of marriage.
“Kuita tsika chinhu chakanaka dzinoita kuti uzvichegetedze,” Dr Mnangagwa.
“Maintaining good morals is important as it helps you take care of yourself.”
The First Lady’s remarks come in the wake of reports from Msasa Projects, a gender-based violence (GBV) advocacy organization, which revealed a surprising trend—most of the cases reported through their hotlines involve women engaging in extramarital affairs.
According to a representative from Msasa Projects, dissatisfaction within marriages is a significant factor contributing to this trend.
“The majority of the cases coming to us are about women cheating,” the representative said.
“One of the main reasons is that men are not satisfying their wives, which leads them to cheat. Men must try by all means to satisfy their wives to avoid this.”
The reports have ignited widespread debate about marital roles, responsibilities, and the dynamics of modern relationships.
Advocacy groups are calling for better communication between spouses, as well as access to counseling and education, to address the underlying causes of these issues.
