Kathleen Hennings, a lively 105-year-old woman, has revealed her unconventional formula for a long and happy life: savoring a pint of beer and choosing to remain single.
Guinness, the world-famous Irish stout, is her beverage of choice. Known for its rich, roasted flavor with hints of coffee, it has been a staple in Kathleen’s life since her teenage years.
On October 2, 2024, Kathleen celebrated her 105th birthday surrounded by friends and staff at her care home. Reflecting on her milestone, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “It was wonderful to see my friends and neighbors. I’ve been truly spoiled thank you all so much.”
Born in 1919 in Brixton, UK, Kathleen enjoyed a fulfilling life as an accountant in London. She cherished cultural pursuits, including dancing at Covent Garden and attending operas and ballets. Despite her years, she remains fiercely independent and continues to enjoy her favorite Guinness.

Recalling her early memories of the drink, Kathleen shared, “Guinness was a family favorite. My parents introduced me to it during my teenage years, and my older brother Charlie was also a fan. It quickly became a tradition during family meals.”
Her care home made sure the day was special, providing plenty of Guinness and even commemorative pint glasses. As Kathleen raised her glass with a smile, she credited her impressive longevity to her love of the stout and her decision to stay single.
Malaika Charles, the manager of Sandfields care home, emphasized the significance of honoring such achievements. “Celebrating special moments like Kathleen’s 105th birthday is so important to us. It was wonderful to see her surrounded by so much love and joy. The team went above and beyond to make it a day to remember, and it was heartwarming to see everyone toast to her incredible life.”
