 Zimbabwean Gospel Musician and Joyous Celebration Member Eric Moyo Passes Away

Zimbabwean gospel musician and esteemed member of the Joyous Celebration choir, Eric Moyo, has tragically passed away at the age of 41.

According to reports, the South Africa-based music sensation collapsed while performing on stage with Joyous Celebration and was subsequently rushed to a hospital in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. Despite medical efforts, Moyo sadly did not survive.

The news of Moyo’s untimely demise has left the music industry and his fans in a state of shock and grief.

Fellow gospel artist Cliff M, who shared a close bond with Eric Moyo, expressed his heartbreak on social media, saying, “Why why why – my Twin, why did you leave me like this? Arghhh it is well – Rest well my blood @officialericmoyo.”

Moyo first gained prominence when he participated in Zimbabwe’s talent search show, A-Academy, in 2006. His captivating performances propelled him to the top three, captivating audiences with his remarkable talent.

Driven by his passion for music and unwavering determination, Moyo subsequently joined the inaugural Idols East Africa competition, where he emerged as the winner, surpassing Nichollete Kiiga from Kenya.

As part of his prize, Moyo received a cash award of US$80,000 and secured a recording contract with Sony BMG.

In 2011, Moyo crossed paths with Lindelani Mkhize, co-founder of Joyous Celebration, who expressed his desire to have a Zimbabwean artist join the renowned choir.

Although initial contact was lost, Mkhize later invited fellow Zimbabwean singer Mkhululi Bhebhe to join the group. Bhebhe went on to achieve great success with Joyous Celebration, producing the hit song “Ichokwadi.

However, in 2014, Moyo and Mkhize reconnected in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and initiated the process for Moyo to become a member of Joyous Celebration.

Later that year, Moyo officially joined the choir, leaving an indelible mark on the gospel music scene.

Devoted fans and fellow celebrities have been mourning the loss of Eric Moyo. Alie Keys, a producer associated with Cassper Nyovest, expressed deep sorrow, questioning how to cope with the flood of memories.

Busi shared a biblical sentiment, acknowledging that Moyo is now in the presence of the Lord. Justina expressed a broken heart, while Sean reflected on the impact of Moyo’s passing.

Eric Moyo’s departure has left a void in the hearts of many. His talent, passion, and contributions to gospel music will be remembered fondly. May he rest in peace, and may his music continue to inspire and uplift those who listen to it.
