Born on August 29 1991, award winning afro-jazz musician Aggabu Nyabinde recently launched his new album titled Honai at 7 Arts Theatre in Harare.
The 11-track album, has three tracks dedicated to his late legendary father, Bob Nyabinde, of which he said that it is of sentimental value as it is the very first album he is doing without his father.
The album is a testament to Agga’s exceptional talent and his band’s tight chemistry, blending traditional Zimbabwean rhythms with modern jazz elements.
He has been making waves in the afro-jazz genre, enthralling audiences with his unique sound and energetic performances
His recent appointment as the communications manager at the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe is a new development that was well received in the arts industry.

His success has not gone unnoticed, as he was crowned the best afro-jazz artist by the Zimbabwe Music Awards in 2022. This prestigious recognition has solidified his position as a rising star in the country’s music industry. He was also nominated for Best Afro-Jazz in 2021 and Best Traditional in 2020.
Agga, as he is affectionately called by fans, said his choice for fused African sounds was driven by his music studies at Midlands State University, including influences from his late father and music mentor.
Some of Agga’s tracks, such as “Kufara kweumwe,” have been dominating the airwaves, topping the charts on popular radio stations like Classic 263 FM. His collaborations with fellow artists like Mbeu, Victor Kunonga, Selmor Mtukudzi, and Sulumani Chimbetu have also been well-received, showcasing his versatility and ability to fuse different styles.
Agga did many projects dating back to 2019 when he did an album titled Kushanda. He also recorded a duet album with the poet Itai Sekeremo. He once worked with a seven-piece band called Duo Likembe and now the lead vocalist of 2 Nice Band.
Agga Nyabinde is undoubtedly one of Zimbabwe’s most exciting music exports. As he continues to push the boundaries of afro-jazz, his music is sure to resonate with audiences far beyond the borders of his homeland.
