American artist Chris Brown has initiated a $500 million lawsuit against Ample, LLC, Warner Brothers, and several individuals involved in the production of the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence.
Brown’s attorney, Levy McCathern, contends that the documentary prioritizes profit over journalistic integrity, alleging that it disseminates “false and misleading” claims regarding Brown, including allegations of sexual assault and evidence tampering. McCathern claims these accusations were previously dismissed in court.
“Despite knowing these facts before the documentary’s October release, Ample, LLC and Warner Brothers chose to propagate defamatory lies, a shocking act,” McCathern stated. “They sensationalized discredited claims to boost viewership and profits, thereby recklessly harming Brown’s reputation and spreading falsehoods to the public.”

The documentary includes a claim from “Jane Doe,” who had previously filed a lawsuit against Brown, alleging that he drugged and assaulted her during a yacht party hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2020. That case was dismissed by the court when the prosecution did not pursue it.
McCathern emphasized that interactions between Brown and the accuser were consensual, supported by numerous text and voice messages in which she sought a relationship with him. “It is baffling that the production companies would elevate her discredited claims over the truth established in a court of law,” McCathern remarked.
A portion of the damages sought in the lawsuit is intended to be donated to survivors of sexual abuse. “Through this legal action, Brown seeks accountability and aims to combat the exploitation of misinformation for personal gain.”
