Insiza District, Matabeleland South – Employees at Wanezi High School have raised serious concerns over the institution’s deteriorating living conditions, citing two years without electricity and a lack of running water.
In a statement on behalf of disgruntled staff, workers accuse the school’s bursar, Mr Moyo, of financial mismanagement and prioritising personal interests over the welfare of employees and students.
According to the employees, the school’s power supply was disconnected by ZESA due to unpaid bills.
However, rather than settling the outstanding debt, Mr Moyo allegedly installed an expensive solar system that benefits only himself and a select group of administrative staff.

This has sparked outrage among employees and parents, particularly given that parents are paying a hefty USD $680 in school fees.
Despite these challenges, the school is set to host a lavish farewell party on March 28, 2025, for its former headmistress, Ms Kumalo, who, according to staff, left the institution in a state of disrepair.
The event is proceeding even as workers remain unpaid for March, and the school continues to operate without electricity or running water.
The situation at Wanezi High School has drawn sharp criticism from employees and the broader community, who are calling for urgent intervention to address the crisis and hold those responsible accountable.
