Three time NAMA award winning dancer, Malcom Eugene Chirove affectionately known as Malowizy, has voiced concern over selective appreciation in local Showbiz.
In an interview with Showbiz 263, Malowizy urged all stakeholders in the industry to support each other without partiality.
“My message to everyone, be it artistes or promoters is let us work together and not look down upon one another based on which form of art you do. We are equal and to promoters in particular I say, pay the dancer because the dancer also works hard,” he said.
Affirmation that a prophet is embraced away from home and ridiculed in his land is seen in how Malowizy was appreciated more during his one year stay in China, than back at home.
“My experience in China was an eye opener and it opened doors for me. I got to perform in places where there were a lot of people with a positive vibe and energy on high levels. That’s where I got appreciated like a big big artiste and it really got to me to the extent that I questioned if I would be appreciated the same back at home,” He said.
However, this experience drove the 2017 NAMA outstanding male dancer to want to make more impact in his country.
A lot of Zimbabwean dancers have been going to China in the past couple of years through a programme Dreamstar owned by a Chinese, Steve Xao.
Malowizy started dancing in 2010 as a hobby until he decided to do it full time in 2014, one year before him and his then dance crew (MNM) won the NAMA award for outstanding dance crew, an award he won again in 2018 with Real Flex. He has done a lot of projects with upcoming and prominent artistes including Jah Prayzah and Amara Brown.
