Eureka Gold Mine recently relocated 15 families from Mazhambe Village to Bome Farm in Guruve, Mashonaland Central Province, as part of its ongoing expansion efforts.
The resettlement was driven by the mine’s need to expand its operations. During the ceremony marking the completion of 15 new homes for the relocated families, Chris Magomo, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Mashonaland Central, acknowledged the challenges posed by the mine’s activities. However, he expressed the government’s satisfaction with the company’s initiatives to address these concerns.
“We are pleased with the quality of the new homes provided for the families, as well as the mine’s broader corporate social investments,” Minister Magomo stated. “This relocation not only improves living conditions but also promotes peaceful coexistence between Eureka Mine and the local community.”
He also highlighted that this partnership is expected to boost economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance the overall economy of both the province and the country.
Eureka Gold Mine’s operations align with national goals of fostering economic development, advancing social progress, and promoting environmental stewardship.
In addition to the relocation, Eureka Mine has partnered with the District Development Fund to drill and equip 24 solar-powered boreholes in the Guruve area. Six of these boreholes, located at Bome Farm, Nanitale Farm, Dunavet Farm, Nyarugwe Farm, Mazhambe Village, and Guruve Primary School, have already been commissioned. These will provide water to around 600 households, with the borehole at Guruve Primary School benefiting approximately 2,100 students.
This initiative has alleviated the burden on women and children, who previously had to walk long distances for water.

“We remain committed to collaborating with all government bodies and local leaders to identify and address the needs of our communities,” said Mr. Tinago Tinago, Human Capital Support Services Manager at Eureka Mine.
Minister Magomo emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring universal access to clean water, as outlined in the National Development Strategy 1, which targets improvements in health and sanitation. He noted that this initiative is in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to guarantee access to clean water and sanitation for all.
Eureka Mine also made a significant donation of 240 blankets and 78 sets of sheets to Guruve District Hospital, covering all 78 beds in the facility that serves thousands of people across the district.
“The donation reflects the mine’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region,” Minister Magomo said.
Mr. Tinago highlighted that Eureka Mine is dedicated to creating lasting and impactful community projects, particularly in Mashonaland Central Province, which will act as a social license to operate in the area.
Since 1999, the mine has facilitated the relocation of people from Muroiwa, Kazunga, and Mazhambe villages to Bome Farm to enable the expansion of mining operations. The relocation process began with 41 families in Phase 1, followed by 5 families in Phase 2 in 2023. This year, 15 more families from Mazhambe Village were moved as part of Phase 3. Phase 4 is set to begin next year, with plans to relocate 25 families, and another 25 in 2026.
Eureka Gold Mine has invested over US$485,000 in constructing 20 new homes for relocated families and has provided farming inputs worth US$10,700 to support their livelihoods.
Recognizing the importance of education, Eureka Gold Mine has also launched a project to upgrade infrastructure at Muroiwa Primary School. This includes building two new classroom blocks, two staff cottages, and renovating existing classrooms and toilets, with an estimated cost of US$150,000.
The mine plays a crucial role in the local economy through job creation, tax payments, and infrastructure development. Looking ahead, Mr. Tinago shared that Eureka plans to build 350 homes for its employees as part of a housing scheme.
