Fatal NRZ Crash Claims Three Lives
Three lives were lost in a tragic incident on the tracks of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) between Mutare and Machipanda late last night.
According to a statement released by the NRZ, initial investigations point towards a possible brake failure on the locomotive. The train, pulling a load of 14 wagons carrying nine export chrome concentrates and five granite blocks, likely experienced a brake malfunction.

This failure resulted in the train becoming uncontrollable, leading to a devastating crash as it failed to negotiate a sharp curve and plunged into a gorge.
Tragically, three NRZ workers were unable to escape the unfolding disaster and lost their lives in the accident. Their identities are being withheld until their families can be informed.
The NRZ board, management, and staff extend their deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased. They are remembered as hardworking and dedicated members of the Railways family.
Investigations into the precise cause of the crash are ongoing, and the NRZ assures that once completed, full details will be provided to the public.
