The Harare City Council aims to complete the refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium in time for the commencement of the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season. Originally, the municipality had planned to finish the upgrade in the previous year, but the renovation process extended beyond the initial timeline.

This week, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume conducted meetings with council engineers to assess the progress of the refurbishment. A statement from the City of Harare highlighted that the meeting aimed to evaluate the current status of the stadium and outline the necessary steps to be taken before the start of the Castle Premier League season next month.

During the meeting, Mayor Mafume urged the engineers to expedite the renovations to ensure the stadium is ready to host the proposed Mayor’s Challenge Cup match between city rivals Dynamos and CAPS United. This pre-season match will serve as part of the preparations for both teams as they gear up for the upcoming season.
