Harare residents are voicing their anger following a disturbing incident involving Harare Municipal Police officers who forcefully dragged a female vendor along the road.
In recent weeks, the Harare City Council and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) intensified their efforts to clear the city center of illegal vendors, kombis, and pirate taxis (mushikashika).
During one of their crackdowns today, male Harare Municipal Police officers confronted vendors, leading to a brief scuffle. Amid the chaos, they apprehended a female vendor, informing her of their intention to take her to the police station.

However, the vendor adamantly resisted, prompting the officers to resort to force. Ignoring her protests, they seized her by the hands and dragged her along the pavement, her belongings swinging from her side bag.
The distressing scene drew the attention of bystanders, many of whom recorded the incident and expressed outrage over the treatment of the vendor. Social media platforms echoed with condemnation of the officers’ actions, with many users denouncing it as abuse of power.
