Jazz Maestro Bob Nyabinde Honored with Memorial Service, Book Launch, and Gig
THE LATE BOB NYABINDE

Memorial Service, Book Launch, and Gig to Honor Late Jazz Maestro Bob Nyabinde. The music industry gears up for a significant day as it prepares to pay homage to the late jazz legend, Bob Nyabinde, with a series of events scheduled to take place in Mbizo, Kwekwe on Saturday.

Confirmed by Nyabinde’s son, Agga, the program includes a memorial service, a book launch, and a gig to celebrate his life and musical legacy. The 380-page book, authored by Munyaradzi Huni, offers an insightful glimpse into Nyabinde’s illustrious career. Originally planned for last year, the book launch was postponed due to Nyabinde’s illness.

The memorial service will be held at Nyabinde’s residence, fondly known as the headmaster’s house, located at Number 1096/16 Mbizo. Following the service, a mini-jazz festival will take place at Gulez Gardens in Kwekwe, featuring performances by renowned artists such as Kireni Zulu, Agga and Albert Nyabinde, Steve Makoni, and Victor Kunonga, among others.

Born on March 10, 1955, in Mutare, Nyabinde initially pursued a career in education, graduating from Mutare Teachers’ College and serving as a teacher and headmaster before retiring. However, his passion for music led him to venture into the music industry, where he founded the Savannah Drive Band, specializing in Afro Jazz.

Nyabinde’s musical journey soared to new heights with the release of his debut album ‘Panenyaya,’ which made history with the iconic track ‘Chabuda Hapana,’ earning acclaim from his devoted fan base.

As friends, family, fans, and esteemed officials gather to commemorate his life and contributions to music, Nyabinde’s legacy as a pioneering figure in Zimbabwean jazz will continue to resonate for years to come.
